Sunset on the Past

Florence - Piazza Michaelangelo
There comes a time where we have to part ways with ourselves and say goodbye to the past and hello to a new beginning. It comes about when you take a long journey and realize where you need to be in life, who you should surround yourself by, and what makes you that truly special and confident person you really are. The sun sets on the past to rise the next night and give you a new beginning.

It all started when I took a train in from Milan to Florence – the night before I met an amazing person and she changed my outlook on life, on love. I didn’t realize the impact she made on me until four days later when I met an entirely new crowd – Meaghan, Stuart, Adrian, Lauren, this one is for you four. When I met this crowd, I felt like I was at home with the guys, especially when we had a few drinks. When you feel at home, home is anywhere. I’ve always wanted to shoot a sunset; this is the only one I was able to get. I was coming a bit more out of my shell and found that I could be me and confident at the same time – have faith in yourself.

I took to the path, the way to Piazza Michelangelo, with a few people from the hostel and another we picked up along the way. When we got to the top, the four of us took our camera’s and just kept shooting. I decided to try a panoramic with hopes to preserve the memory I cherished so close to my heart. We had some fun with it; silly pictures, helping one another, and talking about life in general. A doppelganger and embarrassing pictures later, I found meaning to my heart. My heart stays in Venice; it gave me life. My heart comes from Florence; it gave me confidence in myself.

The scenery is amazing and should be on every person’s bucket list. The architecture, from afar or up close, is spectacular! It draws you in like a magnet and you can stare at it for hours. It’s not just Duomo; houses, buildings, restaurants, sculptures – it’s like touring without technology.

I hope you enjoy this piece; my life just wouldn’t be the same if I had never been to Florence during these exact moments.

Ciao,

Jordan

Paradise: Island of Capri

Capri, Italy (Amalfi Coast). Paradise at it's finest.
Who knew paradise was so small and existed off the coast of Italy. Not a factory in site – Naples looked like a small city from the coast of the amazing Island of Capri. Everywhere you walk you have the smell of freshly squeezed lemons and bottles of limoncello are in the windows of every other store. The air was the freshest I’ve ever breathed and the calming smell of the salt water made the complete feeling of paradise.

Paradise, what really is it? I describe Capri as a small island with many things that I love. Not only does it have an amazing view, but it makes you forget where you will be and the world we live in. It’s just far enough to be away from society, but close enough to know that you can find paradise anywhere. I hope you view the vibrant colours as happiness with the landscape panning across the island. The backside of the island is just as beautiful, but I find it to be a little more natural. With not as many buildings, you gain respect for the nature of what this world had to offer before we expanded and took it for granted. You can also see this to the left of the panoramic.

Italy, in itself, is a gorgeous country to view, but Capri is a highlight of it. To get to Capri, you can take a ferry that lasts 40 minutes. Trust me, it is worth it if you get a little bit sea sick.

This would be perfect for a walkway or blown up in a living room.  Find paradise hanging on your wall and don’t let the world get to you. You only have one life to live, you might as well see paradise every day.

It's a New Day

Ferry ride to Nanaimo, BC from Vancouver, BC
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life. Michael Buble sings it with such grace and motivation. This is exactly what this picture of the Vancouver, British Columbia sunrise teaches anyone.

The city is off in the distance and the skyscrapers that tower over these lands are barely visible – but the beauty lays in the scenic route, the ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo British Columbia. The skies show grace with the sun bringing new life to your world. The calming water is the only mystery that comes between you and your dreams. But there is more than the scenery that makes this image perfect – the soothing sounds that you cannot hear from an image.

Seabirds communicating with each other over the waves splashing against the side of the hull – the ideal way to be alone with your thoughts. If you have this hanging up in your living room, it sets a good scene to close your eyes and just be with yourself, when you need it most. Everyone needs that special place in your mind that you can bring yourself too, why not make this yours?

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life, for me, and I’m feeling good, I’m feeling good.
